Soccer Tryout Training in Prince George’s County

Soccer Tryout Training in Prince George's County

Tryouts can feel like one shot to show everything your child has worked for. With Touch Lab Soccer Training, your player walks onto that field prepared, confident, and ready to stand out.

I’m Coach Paul, a USSF-licensed coach with more than 14 years of youth coaching experience, including work with the Manchester City Soccer Academy. I bring private tryout training directly to families across Prince George’s County, at a park or field close to home.

Why Soccer Tryout Training in Prince George’s County Matters

Prince George’s County has one of the busiest youth soccer scenes in Maryland. Club and travel tryouts here often draw large groups of players competing for a limited number of roster spots, and coaches have only a short window to watch each one.

In that setting, players who look sharp in the first few minutes get noticed. Focused training before tryouts helps your child show their best soccer when it counts, instead of spending the first half of tryouts shaking off nerves.

What Tryout Coaches Look For

Every program is different, but evaluators consistently watch for the same core qualities:

  • First touch: controlling the ball cleanly under pressure and setting up the next action
  • Ball mastery: comfortable dribbling with both feet and keeping possession in tight spaces
  • Passing and receiving: accurate passes, good body shape, and scanning before the ball arrives
  • Decision making: knowing when to dribble, pass, or shoot
  • Effort and attitude: communication, hustle, and how a player responds after a mistake

Tryout training sessions target these areas directly, so the skills coaches evaluate are the skills your child has been practicing.

How Tryout Training Works

  1. Player Evaluation Session. We start with a one-hour evaluation to see where your child stands across technical skills, movement, and game understanding.
  2. Tryout plan. Based on the evaluation and your tryout dates, I build a focused plan around the biggest areas for improvement.
  3. Training sessions. One-on-one or small group sessions at a park or field near you, built around game-realistic drills and tryout-style situations.
  4. Tryout day readiness. In the final sessions, we sharpen confidence, review what evaluators will see, and talk through how to handle nerves and mistakes.

When to Start

Most Maryland club tryouts take place in late spring and early summer, and high school tryouts usually begin in August. Starting 6 to 8 weeks before tryouts gives your player enough time to build real improvement, not just a quick refresh. If tryouts are only a few weeks away, focused training still helps, and we’ll prioritize the skills that make the biggest difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions does my child need before tryouts? Most players benefit from 4 to 8 sessions before tryouts. The 4-session package works well for a focused tune-up, while the 8-session package allows time for deeper skill development.

Can tryout training help my child move from rec to travel soccer? Yes. Tryout training is a great fit for players making the jump from recreational to travel or club soccer. Tryout prep focuses on the speed, touch, and decision making that travel coaches expect.

Does my child need to bring anything? Cleats, shin guards, a size-appropriate ball, and water. I bring cones and the other training equipment.

Do you guarantee my child will make the team? No coach can honestly guarantee a roster spot. What tryout training does is help your child show their true ability and give them the best possible chance.
