There is no faster path to player development than one-on-one coaching. Not bigger camps, not fancier facilities, not more games. When a single player works directly with a trained, focused coach, with no distractions, no waiting in line and no shared attention. The rate of improvement accelerates in a way that group environments simply cannot match.
At Touch Lab Soccer Training, we have built our entire model around that principle. Lead coach Paul Jackiewicz is a USSF-licensed coach who has been developing youth soccer players across Maryland since 2013. Every one-on-one session he runs is built around one question: what does this specific player need most right now?
The answer is different for every athlete. That’s the whole point.

What One-on-One Training Actually Does
Most youth players in Maryland practice soccer in groups, recreational leagues, travel clubs, school teams. Those environments teach players how to function within a team system. They don’t teach individual technical skill with any depth or consistency.
Here’s why: in a team practice of 15 players, your child might touch the ball 40–60 times across a full hour. In a private one-on-one session, that same player touches the ball 300–500 times with coaching feedback on every single repetition. That volume of focused, intentional practice is what actually builds skill.
US Youth Soccer, the governing body for youth soccer across the country, consistently emphasizes deliberate individual skill development as a core component of long-term player development. One-on-one training is where that development happens in its purest form.
The Touch Lab Approach to Individual Development
Coach Paul structures every one-on-one session around three priorities:
1. Identify the real problem. Before the first drill starts, Paul watches the player and identifies what’s actually limiting their game, not what a parent thinks, not what a coach has generically noted, but what’s specifically holding this athlete back in real match situations.
2. Drill it with intention. Every exercise in the session is chosen because it directly addresses that specific weakness. Players don’t run generic drills. They run the exact drills that build the exact skill they need.
3. Apply it in context. Technical skills mean nothing if players can’t use them under pressure. Sessions always include game-realistic scenarios where players apply what they’ve been drilling in conditions that feel like a real match.
