There’s a specific kind of player that Coach Paul sees regularly throughout Anne Arundel County, technically capable, clearly works hard, plays regularly for a club or school team, but struggles to perform in actual matches at the level their potential suggests. They look fine in training. Under match pressure, something breaks down. A first touch that should be easy becomes sloppy. A simple pass gets rushed. A 1v1 situation they’d handle fine in practice suddenly feels overwhelming.
This is the confidence gap. And it’s one of the most common performance barriers for youth players in competitive communities like Annapolis, Severna Park, Crofton, Odenton, and Glen Burnie.
One-on-one training directly addresses this. Not by talking about confidence, but by building the technical foundation deep enough that a player trusts themselves under pressure. The solution isn’t motivational. It’s repetition. It’s drilling the right skills so many times, in conditions that simulate the pressure of a real game, that the skills become automatic. That’s when confidence follows.

Building the Foundation That Creates Match Confidence
Coach Paul’s approach to one-on-one training in Anne Arundel County is built around a simple truth: players become confident when their skills are reliable. Not when they’re told they’re good enough, but when they’ve proven it to themselves through thousands of correct repetitions.
Sessions focus on building that reliability in the skills that matter most in match situations:
Receiving under pressure. The ball comes fast. A defender is closing. Can the player bring it under control in one touch and immediately make a decision? This is the first domino. If a player can’t receive cleanly, nothing else works.
Dribbling without hesitation. Players who second-guess themselves on the ball invite pressure. Private training builds both the physical skill and the psychological habit of moving decisively with the ball.
Playing quickly. Most youth players in recreational or lower-level club environments develop a tendency to hold the ball too long because nobody was pressing them hard enough to require faster play. One-on-one training resets that timing to a competitive standard.
Composure in front of goal. Nothing erodes a player’s confidence faster than missed scoring chances. Finishing drills in private sessions are specifically designed to build the calmness and technique needed when it counts.

Frequently Asked Questions: One-on-One Training in Anne Arundel County
How is one-on-one training different from Touch Lab’s small group sessions?
One-on-one sessions are built entirely around a single player’s weaknesses and goals. There’s no shared attention, no waiting for a turn, and no pacing the session around a group’s average skill level. Every rep, every correction, and every minute of the hour is focused on that one player. Small group training is great for competitive touches and game-like decision making, but if a player has a specific technical gap holding them back, one-on-one closes it faster.
Do you travel throughout Anne Arundel County, or just to certain towns?
Touch Lab trains players throughout Anne Arundel County, including Annapolis, Severna Park, Crofton, Odenton, Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Arnold, and Millersville. Sessions within 30 minutes of Upper Marlboro carry no travel fee. Locations 30 to 45 minutes out add a $25 travel fee, and locations 45 minutes or more add a $35 travel fee. If you’re unsure which zone your neighborhood falls into, ask when you book and Coach Paul will confirm before the session is scheduled.
My child already plays club or school soccer. Will one-on-one training conflict with that?
No, and it’s actually one of the most common reasons families in Anne Arundel County book one-on-one sessions. Club and school practices are built around team tactics and can’t give any single player the repetitions needed to fix an individual weakness. One-on-one training works alongside a club schedule, not against it, and most players book sessions on off days or before practices ramp up in intensity during the season.
How many one-on-one sessions does it typically take to see improvement?
It depends on the skill and the player, but most families start noticing changes in confidence and touch quality within four to six sessions, which is why the 4 session package tends to be the starting point for new clients. Skills like first touch and close control respond fastest to high repetition. Bigger shifts, like a player’s decision making speed under pressure, usually take a full 8 session package or ongoing weekly training to become second nature.
Can two siblings or friends split a one-on-one session?
One-on-one sessions are designed for a single player so the training can stay fully personalized to their specific needs. If you’re looking to train two players together, Touch Lab’s small group sessions are built for that and are priced accordingly. Reach out and Coach Paul can help you figure out which format fits your situation best.
Do you train goalkeepers, or only field players?
Coach Paul’s one-on-one sessions are focused on outfield technical development, including ball control, dribbling, passing, and finishing. If your child is a keeper looking to sharpen their footwork and distribution as a ball playing goalkeeper, that fits within a standard session. Specialized shot stopping and dive technique training fall outside the current program.
What happens if we need to reschedule a session?
Life happens, and Coach Paul understands that. Reach out as early as possible so the time slot can be offered to another client. Clients on a package who give reasonable notice can typically shift their session to another day that week. Because scheduling in Anne Arundel County fills up quickly around evenings and weekends, last minute changes are harder to accommodate, so as much notice as you can give helps keep things flexible.
