Getting ready for soccer tryouts shouldn’t mean long drives to a training facility. Touch Lab Soccer Training brings private tryout preparation to Calvert County families, right at a park or field near home.
I’m Coach Paul, a USSF-licensed coach with more than 14 years of experience developing youth players, including coaching with the Manchester City Soccer Academy. My tryout training helps players walk into evaluations confident and prepared.
Soccer Tryout Training in Calvert County, Close to Home
For many Calvert County families, serious soccer training means a long drive north or west, often during weeknight traffic. Mobile training removes that commute. Your child gets focused, individual coaching on a familiar field, and you get your evenings back.
Whether your player is preparing for a club team, a travel team, or a spot on the roster at Northern, Huntingtown, Calvert, or Patuxent High School, sessions are built around the program they’re trying out for.
What Your Child Will Work On
Tryout evaluators decide quickly, so training focuses on the skills they notice first:
- First touch and ball control: receiving cleanly and keeping the ball under pressure
- Two-footed dribbling: beating defenders and protecting the ball in tight spaces
- Passing accuracy: weighted passes, body shape, and checking the field before receiving
- Game awareness: reading the play and making smart choices quickly
- Tryout confidence: staying composed, communicating, and bouncing back after mistakes
How It Works
- Start with an evaluation. A one-hour Player Evaluation Session shows exactly where your child stands and what to focus on.
- Build the plan. I map out training around your tryout dates and your player’s biggest opportunities to improve.
- Train with purpose. Each session uses game-realistic drills and tryout-style scenarios, one-on-one or in a small group.
- Finish ready. The last sessions focus on sharpening skills, building confidence, and knowing what to expect on tryout day.
When to Start
Most Maryland club tryouts happen in late spring and early summer, and high school tryouts typically begin in August. Starting 6 to 8 weeks ahead allows time for meaningful improvement. Even a few sessions in the final weeks can help your child feel sharper and more confident.
Where We Train in Calvert County
I train players throughout Calvert County, including Dunkirk, Owings, Huntingtown, Prince Frederick, Chesapeake Beach, North Beach, St. Leonard, Lusby, and Solomons. Sessions take place at public parks and fields convenient for your family.
Because Touch Lab Soccer Training is based in Upper Marlboro, travel fees depend on distance. Northern Calvert locations such as Dunkirk and Owings usually have no travel fee. Central Calvert locations are typically $25, and southern Calvert locations such as Lusby and Solomons are $35.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you really come all the way to southern Calvert County? Yes. I train players across the entire county, from Dunkirk to Solomons. A travel fee applies to locations farther from Upper Marlboro.
Is tryout training helpful for high school tryouts? Absolutely. High school coaches evaluate many of the same skills as club coaches, and preparing over the summer helps players arrive in August ready to compete.
How many sessions should we book? Most players do well with 4 to 8 sessions before tryouts. If time is short, the 4-session package gives a focused tune-up.
Can my child’s teammate train with them? Yes. Small group sessions work well for teammates trying out together, and they reduce the cost for each family.
