One-on-One Soccer Training in Upper Marlboro, MD

Upper Marlboro players get one thing in a one-on-one session that’s nearly impossible to find anywhere else: sixty straight minutes where the coach’s only job is watching them. Not managing a roster, not splitting reps eight ways, not running a drill line. One player, one ball, one coach, and a plan built specifically around what that player needs to fix, add, or sharpen next.

This page covers exactly what a Touch Lab Soccer Training one-on-one session looks like once you book one in Upper Marlboro: how the hour is structured, where locally we train, how to know if one-on-one is the right fit for your player, and what to expect on session day.

Inside a One-on-One Session: How the Hour Is Built

A one-on-one session isn’t sixty minutes of random drills. It follows a deliberate structure so every phase of the hour has a purpose.

Minutes 0 to 10: Movement and Ball Familiarity The session opens with dynamic movement and light ball work to get the player’s body and touch warmed up. This also doubles as a quick read on how the player is moving that day, tired, sharp, distracted, confident, which shapes how the rest of the session gets coached.

Minutes 10 to 35: Technical Focus Block This is the core of the session. Whatever the player’s priority is that week, whether it’s their weak foot, first touch under pressure, or a specific dribbling move, this block is built entirely around it. Because there’s no group to manage, reps come fast and corrections happen the moment a mistake happens, not five minutes later.

Minutes 35 to 50: Game-Realistic Application Isolated skill work only matters if it shows up in actual play. This block moves the same skill into small-sided, game-like scenarios, adding defenders, time pressure, or decision-making elements so the player learns to use the skill under conditions that resemble a real match.

Minutes 50 to 60: Cool Down and Direct Feedback The session closes with a short cool down and a direct conversation with the player, and the parent if present, on what improved, what still needs work, and what to focus on at home before the next session.

This structure repeats every session, but the content inside each block changes based on what the player actually needs, not a fixed curriculum.

Where We Train One-on-One in Upper Marlboro

As a mobile coaching service, Touch Lab doesn’t operate out of a single facility. Sessions are held at well-maintained public parks and fields across Upper Marlboro, chosen based on what’s closest and most convenient for your family. Locations commonly used in the area include:

  • Watkins Regional Park (301 Watkins Park Dr), which has open turf and a lighted field well suited for technical and small-sided work
  • Rosaryville State Park, a quieter option with open green space
  • Upper Marlboro Community Center, which includes a dedicated soccer and futsal field
  • Additional neighborhood parks and school fields throughout the 20772 and 20774 zip codes, selected based on your specific location

If you have a preferred park near your home, school, or your player’s regular team practice field, let us know when you book and we’ll build the session around it whenever possible.

Is One-on-One the Right Fit for Your Player?

Not every player needs one-on-one coaching, and not every player needs it forever. Here’s a quick self-check for Upper Marlboro parents trying to decide between private and small group training:

One-on-one is probably the right call if your player:

  • Has one clear, specific weakness (weak foot, first touch, finishing, etc.) that keeps showing up in games
  • Is preparing for a tryout, showcase, or move up to a more competitive team and needs to close a gap quickly
  • Gets overwhelmed or checked out in group settings and learns faster with individual attention
  • Is a goalkeeper needing position-specific technical work that a field-player-focused group session won’t cover
  • Is returning from an injury and needs a controlled pace rather than a full-speed group environment

Small group training might be the better starting point if your player:

  • Is younger and benefits more from a fun, social training environment than intense individual focus
  • Already trains well within a team structure and mainly wants extra competitive reps
  • Is budget-conscious and wants to split the cost of coaching with teammates or friends

Plenty of families use both: one-on-one for a specific weakness, small group for competitive reps. If you’re not sure which is right, the Player Evaluation Session is built to answer exactly that question before you commit to either.

What to Bring and What to Expect

Sessions run rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe (lightning, severe storms, extreme heat advisories), in which case we’ll reschedule at no charge. Here’s what to have ready:

  • Cleats appropriate for the field surface (firm ground or turf depending on location)
  • Shin guards
  • A properly sized soccer ball, though we also bring training equipment
  • Water, especially for sessions during warmer months
  • Comfortable athletic clothing suited to the weather

Parents are welcome to stay and watch every session. Many find it useful to hear the direct feedback at the end so they can reinforce it during practice at home during the week.

Not sure where your player stands or what to focus on? A Player Evaluation Session is the best way to start. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I request the same park for every session? Yes. Most families settle on one or two convenient locations and stick with them for consistency, which also helps players get comfortable with the surface and space.

How far in advance do I need to book? Because scheduling is limited, especially for recurring weekly slots, we recommend booking at least a few days ahead. Clients on multi-session packages get priority scheduling over one-off bookings.

Does my player need prior soccer experience? No. One-on-one sessions work for complete beginners building their first touch as well as competitive travel players polishing advanced technique. The session is built around wherever the player currently is.

What if my player has multiple things they need to work on? That’s normal, and it’s exactly what the technical focus block is for. We’ll typically prioritize one or two areas per session rather than trying to cover everything at once, since depth produces better results than breadth in a single hour.

Can sessions happen on weekday evenings and weekends? Yes. Scheduling is built around your family’s availability, including after-school weekday evening slots and weekend sessions.
